Curriculum Development

Currently, Laurel University does not have a Communications department. I was charged with the responsibility of creating communication classes to be housed under the Business Management degree. The Communication and Interactive Media course was designed to introduce students to the fundamental principles of communication. Students will learn how to be effective communicators in both their personal and professional lives. In this introductory course, students will get hands-on experience with digital forms of engagement while learning how to use a wide range of social media tools. Additionally, students will understand how to develop and implement social media campaigns for PR and self-promotion with minimal to no budget. This is the first class that I created in an effort to build the communications degree at Laurel. I will be working on a few more this upcoming summer. In addition to Laurel University, I currently teach Human Communication at High Point University. I have also taught Public Speaking at Guilford Technical Community College.

In an effort to give back to the community, I recently partnered with Greater First United Baptist Church of High Point, NC. Through this partnership, I orchestrated three Public Speaking seminars for the youth and adults; teaching them the fundamentals of becoming effective speakers.
